A Day to Remember
President’s Day is always a special occasion at the club, but with it only coming round once every three years, it carries that extra sense of anticipation. This year’s event will certainly live long in the memory.
A new format was introduced for the day — two-man Texas Scrambles, with each pair required to contribute at least seven drives. It proved a fantastic choice, encouraging plenty of teamwork, strategy and some great scoring along the way.
Of course, it wasn’t just about the golf. Hospitality was first class throughout, with refreshments available on the course and a very welcome glass of Pimm’s at the halfway house. It all added to the sense of occasion and ensured plenty of smiles, whatever the scorecard said.
Results
Winners: Simon Corke & Greg Jarvis – 57.45
Runners-up: Tom Gilbert & Alex Fellas – 59.39
Third place: Darren Ward & Richard Fruin – 61.015
Nearest-the-pin prizes were also keenly contested, with plenty of bragging rights at stake.
The President’s Touch
The President, never shy of a joke about his own height, amused the crowd by pointing out the rather tall stature of the winning pair — with a quip that Lester Piggott and Willie Carson didn’t make the frame raising a laugh from Mr Duffield and others.
Adding a personal flourish to the presentations, the winners received Art for Golfers red jacket golf balls, a prize that may well become a future tradition.
One for the History Books
President’s Day is about much more than competition; it’s about coming together as a club, celebrating our community, and making memories that last well beyond the final putt. With excellent golf, great company, and a few light-hearted moments along the way, this year’s President’s Day delivered on every level.
