Thanks to Electrical Testing!
Sunday’s Candelabras Open served up golf at its very best – and our friends at Electrical Testing couldn’t have been happier with the spectacle. We had drama, skill, tension, and one of the most exciting sudden-death playoffs the club’s seen in years.
The Candelabras is a long-standing open event here at the club. While it’s always been loved by our 36-hole diehards, we knew the format needed a refresh to attract more players. So, 2025 brought two big changes – a switch to 18 holes and a boost of serious sponsorship – and the result? An absolute cracker of a day, with top-quality golf from start to finish.
The Field
50 players teed off bright and early at 8am, starting from two tees and ready to give it their all.
Handicap Competition
It was tight at the top, with Ian Sperrin edging out Richard Fruin on countback after both returned superb net 67s. Archie Smith grabbed third (also on countback), just ahead of Jason Pratt in fourth and Chris Fielding in fifth. Fantastic golf from all five!
Scratch Competition
This one went the distance – literally. Carl Green and Tom Rutherford both carded fine rounds of 70, forcing a sudden-death playoff. The crowd followed every shot, and after two tense extra holes, Carl sealed the win on the par-five 13th, claiming the trophy and a cool £500 first prize. Chris Robinson took third, Simon Clark fourth, and Richard Fruin fifth.
A Day to Remember
The atmosphere was buzzing from first tee to last putt. There were triumphs, near misses, and plenty of “what if” moments to keep everyone talking.
A huge thank you to Simon Hobbs and the team at Electrical Testing for their enthusiastic support – your backing helped make the 2025 Candelabras a truly unforgettable day.
Here’s to keeping the momentum going for next year!
