Great Yarmouth & Caister Golf Club Seniors Section 2019 Competition Winners

On Friday 6th December 2019 the club held their annual Seniors Christmas lunch and handed out awards from competitions throughout the year.



And the winners are...


25thMarch was the LINKS CUP 33 Players conditions very windy in 3rdplace with 31 points was Daniel McGonagle in 2ndplace with 32 points was Geoff Pilgrim but the winner on the day with 33 points and retaining the Trophy that he won in 2018 it is DERRICK MULLARD.



15thApril New PAIRS competition put up by past Captain RODNEY BECKETT SHIELD with 26 entries the winners with a score of 44 points PAUL OLLINGTON/PAUL WOOLLASTON.



Fri 26th April was CENTENARY CAPTAINS TANKARD dry but windy day we had 41 entries 3rd place was Paul Woollaston with 39 pts, 2nd place Rodney Beckett 4o pts but the winner was BRIANLEVER with 42 points.



10th May on a dull day after some early rain we played for the NEEP BARREL 35 entries, in 3rd place with 37 points was Peter Hosier, in 2nd place with 38 points was Brian Lever but the winner on the day on c/back also with 38 points was BRIAN JOHNSON.



20th May on a cold and windy day 31 players took part in the S.S.A.F.A. all proceeds of this went to the charity which we have supported for a number of years, in second place was Brian Winn with 37 points but the winner on c/back was NICO HUNT both Nico and Brian went on to represent the club at the final at Bawburgh unfortunately they did not feature amongst the winners.


7th June again the weather was cloudy and windy but also dry with 31 players taking part in the CENTENARY BOGEY, in 3rd place was Dave Oliver in par in 2nd place plus one was Gary Nichols but the winner again on c/back also plus one was ROB VINEY.



1st July day was breezy but sunny and with a field of 35 taking part in the MAJESTIC SPORTS TROPHY. We saw good scoring on the day Clive Greenwood taking 3rd place with 38 points, in second place Glyn Chapman with 39 points the winner on the day however again on c/back with 39 points was ROGER CHAMBERLAIN.



29th July and with a much reduced field due to non-participation of the ex members of Weston Park the Weston Stag was played for. Going forward we will be calling this the Caister Stag so the winners of the CAISTER STAG for 2019 are BARRYNORTON/RAY CALNON with 45 points.



23rdAugust we had 39 entries for the Lancs Trophy, the top ten saw only 3 points separate which meant that all top thee scored the same in 3rdplace on c/back was Sean Goodman, second place Mike Day but the winner on the day with the best countback score of 37 points and winner of the LANCS TROPHY GRAHAM TURNER.


13th September on a bright but blustery day with typical links greens 44 players took part in the Platten Tankard, 3rd place went to Clive Greenwood with 36 points second place also with 36 points was Brian Winn but the winner of the PLATTEN TANKARD with 37 points was BRIAN BRISTER.



4th September we held the David Futter Bowl so with 31 players taking part on a bright but windy day and with soft greens in the winner of the DAVID FUTTER BOWL 2019 with a score of 42 points ROBERT WALKER.



17th Oct on a windy and cold day we played a for the DAVID WEBB MEMORIAL BOWL format was first for the Seniors a Rainbow Waltz the winners on the day being Dave Oliver, Paul Woollaston, Tony Marjoram with 77 points.



So that just leaves us with the only as yet medal competion the Seniors Championship played on the 5th August bright and sunny with very firm conditions as in last year we also have the 70 plus championship on the same day, 41 players took part and place vouchers are as follows in 5th place playing off a h/cap of 17 nett 67 Brian Winn, in 4th place on c/b playing of a h/cap of 12 nett 66 Brian Lever also Brian is the winner of the 70 plus trophy. In 3rd place playing off 20 nett 65 Peter Hosier, in 2nd place playing off 16 nett 65 on c/back Paul Ollington.



So to the GY&C 2019 SENIOR GOLFER of the year and I had the pleasure of playing with him on the day and his putting was superb.


Playing also off a handicap of 12 and with a gross score of 75 nett 63 our champion golfer BARRY NORTON .
