Dress Like Dazza Day!

Our most recent DLDD event proved yet again why it’s one of the most entertaining and unpredictable days on our club calendar. With players restricted to just five clubs and jokers/mulligans in play, this light-hearted format brings out the creativity and the comedy in all of us!
Despite a cold and breezy start, the sun eventually made an appearance, and the laughter echoed across the course. Thank you to all who took part and embraced the spirit of the day = not least with your outfit choices. Let’s just say there may have been a few unplanned detours to the shops on the way home!
On-Course Highlights
From strategic joker plays to improbable putter shots, the round didn’t disappoint. Keith made textbook use of his joker on the 6th hole, executing three consecutive 5-irons to score a birdie and secure 8 points instead of 6. A fine example of mulligan mastery!
Meanwhile, Chris, Harvey, and one especially bold putter enthusiast took on the crater at the 6th with nothing but a flat stick. Remarkably, it travelled a full 180 yards and rolled out for a 4-putt par, surely one for the memory books.
There were challenges too: a few lost balls, rabbit hole rescues (we see you, Biggles), and the ever-present risk of under- or over-estimating one’s club limitations. But from hybrid heroics to daring driver shots onto the 14th green, the shot-making was as impressive as it was inventive.
Of course, no GYC round is complete without Chris nearly overshooting a dyke or Laughland’s unmistakable “Oh Jay” bellowing across the fairways even against the wind.
A Format Worth Repeating
Events like DLDD aren’t just about competition they're about friendship, creativity, and a good laugh. As one member put it, “We should do this more often!” And we agree. With two events a year currently in place, we’re exploring the idea of adding a third, possibly around Christmas, Easter, or summer.
The Results Are In...
3rd Place: Jim – 38 points + 4 Joker points + 1 unused Mulligan = 43 points A strong and consistent round, only marred by a single blob on the 15th.
2nd Place: Keith – 44 points (including Mulligan and Joker boosts)
1st Place: [Name withheld for modesty!] – 44 points on countback
With 21 points on the back nine versus Keith’s 18, victory came down to the wire. It just goes to show—even with a second 4-putt on the 12th, anything is possible in DLDD!
Special mentions to Bill and Fred, who both played to or better than their handicaps with only five clubs—and still didn’t make the top 3. That’s how tight the field was.
Until Next Time...
A big thank you to everyone who took part, brought the laughs, and reminded us that golf doesn’t always have to be serious to be memorable. We’ll see what we can do about squeezing another DLDD into the calendar—but in the meantime, keep those jokers handy... and maybe give that putter another look!
