To the 2025 Golfing Season at Great Yarmouth & Caister
As another golfing year draws to a close, the change in weather reminds us just how much has been packed into the season. Storms, sunshine, close contests and plenty of clubhouse moments have shaped a year that will be remembered for strong performances across every section of the club.
A Texas Scramble to Round Off the Season
Sunday’s Texas Scramble was the final major competition of the year and, true to form, it drew a superb turnout. Twenty-five teams of four took to the fairways in testing conditions, determined to post a score that might hold up amid fierce competition.
The eventual winners were the team of A. White, Mr White Snr, P. Salmon and C. Salmon, returning an extraordinary 52.78. With the breeze swirling and the course offering its full coastal challenge, it was an outstanding achievement.
A Packed Clubhouse for the Presentations
By late afternoon, the clubhouse was full to bursting as members gathered to recognise this year’s champions. The silverware stood gleaming on display tables, ready to be presented by Club Captain, Michael Fleming. He is pictured with several of the winners, marking a proud moment for all involved.
Ladies’ Achievements Shine
The ladies’ winners were the first to be recognised, and the applause spoke volumes. A standout mention goes to the Gillieson team, who reached the final of the Norfolk County Ladies’ Gillieson Knockout before being narrowly beaten by Mundesley. They produced some excellent golf throughout the competition and earned every bit of the applause they received.
Team Captain, Dawn Futter, delivered a warm and heartfelt speech that captured both the competitive spirit of her players and the unity within the squad. Her words even brought a tear to the eye, perfectly summing up how much the achievement meant to the group.
Celebrating the Men’s Champions
The men’s champions were then called forward to collect their trophies and keepsake medals. This year saw several standout performances, but one golfer in particular enjoyed a remarkable run.
Chris Reeves claimed a trio of honours:
The Doug Peake Trophy
The Bateman Plate
The club handicap championship, the Lindsay Cup
At the top of the scratch leaderboard, the contest went down to the wire. In the end, Tom Rutherford’s repeat excellence across the season earned him the title of 2025 Champion Golfer. His methodical approach and steady scoring placed him ahead in what was described as a season-long battle.

Thanks to the Handicap Team
No championship season would run smoothly without the dedicated support of those behind the scenes. Special thanks go to the ever-present handicap team of Dave Kightley, Dave Arend, Peter Munford and Darren Farman for their commitment and organisation throughout 2025.
Looking Ahead: Seniors’ Presentation Day
The seniors will have their own presentation on Friday 5 December, held during their Christmas Golf Day. It promises to be another enjoyable gathering, acknowledging the efforts and achievements of the year.
A Year to Enjoy and a Club to Be Proud Of
From competitive highlights to fun moments in the clubhouse, 2025 has been a season defined by community spirit and a shared love for the game. Even as the weather turns, the memories, milestones and progress made across every section will carry us positively into the new year.
Here’s to the players, volunteers and supporters who make Great Yarmouth & Caister such a special place to play.
