Easter golfing week

Following our return to the links the weather decided to play its hand. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday saw tropical weather, tee shirts and shorts summer was here Utopia. As the saying goes one swallow does not make a summer and on Thursday Friday and Saturday it was winter again as the cold returned with a vengeance granny warned never cast a clout till May is out.

Easter Sunday it was summer again and by the bank holiday. Snow flurries strong winds and below zero temperatures. The weather, a bit like my golf game, was erratic to say the least shorts and tee shirts were replaced with snoods gloves and hats. AS I write this the course is closed due to snow. 🌨

The Mens first comp since lock down on Wednesday played in shorts and tee shirts saw a small field make their first competitive scores with Chris Reeves wining with a creditable 39 points.

The Easter Bunny followed on Good Friday with a field of 44 teams braving the north wind wearing wind cheaters gloves and scarves it was sooooo cold. The wining team featuring the double act of father and son Russel and George Waites with Peter Harrison and Luke Woolston landing 87 points.

Saturday still chilly and another men’s Stableford, only two layers, snood and hats, saw Mike Day make a rare appearance in the winner’s circle with 37 points. Sunday back to summer and a field of 80 golfers enjoying a hard fought Lacon cup with Richard Cunningham winning with 40 points.

That took us to Monday for the Artisans Cup which was won by a 55 mph wind snow flurries and below zero wind chills. The Comp postponed a new date will be confirmed.

In a stop, start, up ,down, warm, cold ,wet, dry weekend the club saw some much needed income, many of its members , and the seeds were sawed for a great summer to come. That is if the weather man can push some warm fronts our way and winter can at last push off.
